Vertical (Affiliate Marketing)
A vertical is a category of affiliate offers grouped by product type and audience, such as nutra, sweepstakes, finance, or dating.

A vertical in affiliate marketing is a category of offers grouped by product type and target audience. Common verticals include nutra (supplements and beauty), sweepstakes, finance, dating, e-commerce, gaming, and insurance. Saying you "run nutra" or "work the sweeps vertical" describes the kind of offers, audiences, and creative angles you specialize in.
Verticals matter because they cluster offers that share buyer psychology, compliance rules, and traffic dynamics. A nutra advertorial selling a supplement and a sweepstakes giveaway need very different hooks, pre-landers, and proof, even when both run on the same native widget. Payout models also vary by vertical: many lead-gen and sweepstakes offers pay per lead, while e-commerce and nutra often pay per sale.
Why it matters: experienced media buyers tend to go deep in one or two verticals rather than spread thin across all of them. Mastering a vertical means knowing which angles convert, which geos pay best, which networks approve the offers, and where compliance lines sit. Spy tools let buyers study which creatives and landing pages are winning inside a specific vertical so they can model what already works.
Verticals are not fixed; networks slice them differently, and sub-verticals (like "skin care" within nutra) emerge as demand shifts.
Related terms: Nutra (Nutraceuticals) and Sweepstakes Offer are two of the highest-volume verticals, and every vertical is made up of individual Affiliate Offers.
